Biblical Jordan Tour
With a wealth of Biblical historical hesitage, Jordan is full of sites that are of significant linkages to Christianity, relating to both the Old and New Testaments alike.
While many of these sites reflect stories from the Bible directly, many others follow the development and spread of Christianity throughout history, and through the different civilizations.
This tour is a more detailed program showcasing both aspects. This is also a great opportunity follow the historical paths to understand the dynamics of how Chrisianity started, the geographical and political influences, and ultimately, the forces that helped in shaping this historical heritage.
Some of the highlights and references:
“And when he [Jesus] came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time? Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.” And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.” (Matthew 8:28-32)
35The people went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they became frightened. 36Those who had seen it reported to them how the man who was demon-possessed had been made well. 37And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear; and He got into a boat and returned.… (Luke 8: 35-37)
Shrine of Elijah
“Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” (1 Kings 17:1)
So Joab returned from the people of Ammon and came to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 10:1-14). “And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab to fight the children of Ammon, he besieged Rabbath and destroyed the children of Ammon” (2 Samuel 11:1). The city is also mentioned in the New Testament as the land of martyrs where Christians were killed by the Romans.
“He was beheaded after Salome’s fateful dance.” (Matthew 14:3-11)
